Teaching
Obstetrics and Gynaecology
As a recognised teacher for King's College London, Mr Maxwell is active in training undergraduates, postgraduates, midwives and sonographers on a daily basis.
Surgical teaching
He has developed and run twice yearly courses and seminars in all aspects of obstetrics and gynaecology, including labour ward, practice, ultrasound and surgical techniques.
The surgical course in this series culminated in the publication by Elsevier of his book Surgical Techniques in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
This text is stocked by the bookshop at the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and remains a reference frequently used by doctors training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Ultrasound teaching
He developed the subspecialty programme for training in Fetal and Maternal Medicine Subspecialty at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital.
Through this programme and research conducted in the Fetal Medicine Unit, Mr Maxwell has trained many research colleagues, consultants or other subspecialist since 1988.
Without exception, all have gone on to become consultants in charge of their own units either in the UK, Europe or Australia.
Obstetrics and Gynaecology
He is involved in ultrasound training at all levels and is an examiner for the RCOG/RCR Obstetric ultrasound training as well as a past member of this Royal College training committee.
Several times a year he undertakes accreditation visits to assess the standard of the training in other UK centres.
